Why We Started Almaya
Eitan and Razi spent years independently helping students navigate the college admissions process — Eitan working one-on-one with students on essays and applications, Razi drawing on his experience as a Harvard alumni interviewer and published essay contributor. Working from different sides of the process, they kept encountering the same problem.
Families who wanted serious, high-quality guidance often had to commit to large packages with traditional admissions firms, whether or not that level of support matched what their student actually needed. Families who wanted more flexibility could turn to open tutoring marketplaces, but were left to figure out on their own which advisors were actually qualified, and which ones were the right personal fit for their student.
At the same time, Eitan and Razi knew firsthand that excellent advisors existed at many different experience levels and price points — not just at the top of the market. The real gap wasn't quality. It was a trustworthy way for families to find it.
